Certified Medical Assistant
Position Summary: The Certified Medical Assistant assists in examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a physician to ensure constructive flow and smooth transitions between shifts.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Include:
- Patient care tasks include triage, assisting with routine procedures and minor surgical procedures, taking vitals, and rooming patients.
- Provides patient/caregiver education regarding testing and explains procedures appropriately.
- Prepares and arranges instruments, towels, sterilizes equipment, solutions, and other supplies for routine procedures.
- Prepares patients to include catheterization of assigned patients under aseptic, atraumatic conditions; observes condition of patients and reports unusual conditions.
- Assists in lifting patients and assists wheelchair patients to stand or walk short distances.
- Carries out oral instructions and written physician orders.
- Prepares written/electronic report according to physician preference.
- Completes OSHA and HIPAA training and follows appropriate standards and protocol.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Education Requirements: Diploma/AA Degree
Experience Required: Candidate typically would acquire the qualifications listed below by a combination of training and experience equivalent to completion of a two-year college program, such as medical or nursing assistant; and six months of experience as a medical assistant.
Knowledge of:
- Basic human anatomy and the nervous system
Ability to:
- Assist in lifting patients; Assist wheelchair patients to stand and walk,
- Work and communicate effectively with patients, professional staff and other employees,
- Demonstrate proficiency with PMS and EMR,
- Meet attendance requirements and work evenings or attend required meetings as the demands of the position require.
Physical Demands:
- Requires full range of body motion including handling, lifting, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
- Requires sitting occasionally and standing for long periods of time.
- Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
Equipment Operated: Standard office equipment including computers/internet, fax machines, copiers, printers, scanners, telephones, etc.
Work Environment: Position is in a well-lighted, temperature-controlled office environment.
